Snow

Snow in the mid-south, for the third year in a row. This time temps were in the 20s and as a result, the roads are horrible. Here's the main north-south artery in eastern Memphis, at rush hour this morning...

Too bad the traffic isn't like this every day. And notice the effective snow removal. Hey, this is the south, I guess they figure the sun will eventually come out and do it for them. Besides, drivers will eventually create little ruts to substitute for the white lines. Arkansas looks worse, according to the TDOT traffic cams in West Memphis:

Of course it's always fun to get behind a nervous nelly doing 7 mph up a small grade..

Actually, for the amount of snow (3-4 inches) and the condition of the roads there were remarkably few accidents. Are we getting used to this? After all, only 3-4? Peanuts!

Don't feel slighted. They say we are getting slammed tomorrow.

I have had a 4 day weekend and wouldn;t you know the day I have to go back, it's supposed hit?

My luck.

I could laugh and say "but yours will stick around longer" yet we are not supposed to get much above freezing through Friday, and it's supposed to hit 12 degrees Wednesday night.

I can almost feel the presence of Al Gore somewhere nearby!

We had about 4 inches, nice soft fluffy dry snow, looked pretty. For the first time in 14 years the county cleared our roads. I wrote a letter to the editor thanking them. Perhaps the deaths in New York City, where emergency services could not get to patients in need, encouraged them to finally clear the roads.

We are in a little resort community, about 1/2 the homes are weekenders or summer vacationers. But we ALL pay taxes.
