Acting Stupidly

That pretty much describes most of the loud-mouths on social media and the real media on the Mike Brown mess in St. Louis, along with the so-called witness (otherwise known as a co-conspirator), city spokesmen, governor of Missouri and PD officials, not to mention the solider wannabes who harrassed the media.

And of course the president, who has no business saying much other than 'everyone please let justice take its course and refrain from violence'.  But he just couldn't stop at that, he had to plow forward and lecture everyone on both sides, per usual. He did everything but tell Bill O'Reilly whether there were any smidgens of corruption involved.

In the midst of all the chaos, Jack Cashill provides some badly needed context.

MORE  8/17/14

This is the kind of 'never let a crisis go to waste' piece that can transcend the Ferguson facts, be they for or against the police officer.   Against a backdrop of Obama redistribution initiatives, it may work pretty well as a Democrat theme for the mid-terms to get out the needed vote.

The War on Photographers

This was on Drudge today...

First off, this young man held his constitutional ground as well as anyone. His continued filming throughout the event was pretty gutsy, only to have officers make fools of themselves when he wouldn't give in to intimidation. Putting clothing over the lens was almost comical.

Second, if citizens are someday prevented from photographing common things in the public world from public places the terrorists have definitely won. The cops mentioned 9/11, presumably referring to the surveillance videos shot in Manhattan, but they were not of transit vehicles. Do those cops believe that tourists should no longer be able to film the Empire State Building on their once-in-lifetime vacation? If so the terrorists have won.

Now, in defense of the police the intelligence cache grabbed in bin Laden's villa did mention attacks on public transportation, including railroads, so it's not surprising our law enforcement professionals might be a little ancy about dudes filming the rails right now. But that's where police work comes in. We can't have a society where police indiscriminately harass and detain law-abiding citizens and demand their papers just for videoing in the middle of a city.

MEANWHILE.. 6/3/11

While transit police harass the hearing-impaired train buff in Baltimore thieves are actually out stealing the rails right off the tracks. This one in Massachusetts, and this one in California. Desperate times and desperate measures apparently.

More Police "Acting Stupidly"?

That's what the DC Park Police are saying about the strange event yesterday when Lafayette Park (in front of the White House) was closed as gay service members stood handcuffed to the fence out front. Politico reported, then reported the explanation:
"We had some young officers who, when they were told to move the people back -- which we typically do when we're going to make arrests - they moved the people back a lot further than we typically do," said Schlosser. "That was a rookie, amateur error and they screwed up on that."
Many possibilities--1) they are telling the truth, 2) the White House didn't want the specter of service members being arrested in front of the White House to make the evening news (assuming it would), 3) the Park Police or Secret Service didn't want that image, totally independent of the WH (as with the Sahali party crashers, evidently), 4) nothing happened at all--it was actually created by a CIA hologram.

Assuming it's not 4 or 1, that leaves 2 and 3 as most plausible and the answer to that question is probably in the realm of don't ask, don't tell. Interesting though--at least some in the media are appalled for the first time and many in the gay community are not buying it for a minute. But wait, could this really just be a clever stunt designed to get the right onboard with gays in their quest to abolish DADT due to their mutual outrage, in other words, an enemy of my enemy is my friend thing? Yeah, plain old incompetence or politics makes more sense but with these cats it's never clear.
