FedEx to Airbus: non merci

Darn. They're not the prettiest things in the air, but I was looking forward to see those puppies coming in for a landing. Not to be.

Fred just said no. Fred Smith, that is, the owner of Fed Ex. And no, he's not suddenly participating in O'Reilly's boycott. Their order of 10 A380s, set to begin arriving in 2008, had already been delayed until 2010 "at the earliest" due to problems with the airplane and with Airbus, ironically mentioned by the Instapundit Wednesday. Smith doesn't fool around and apparently has decided to buy American instead, ordering 15 Boeing 777F's.

Ironically the A380s are so big the Memphis Airport had begun a project to widen some of the taxiways to accomodate restrictions on the behemoth's wingspan, something that might keep them away from an airport near you, too.

Airbus's loss is good for Boeing and good for the USA. But it's bad for AC's plane watching.
