The Saddam docs began trickling out today, with promises of meatier stuff to come. But here's the "careful what you wish for" part. The MSM will be extremely cynical with this stuff, mainly because they've been grabbing Neilsons with their "Bush screwed up" storyline for the past few years (ever since the action war shots disappeared), and, well, because they're mostly liberals. We've already seen an example last month when the Saddam office tapes emerged. ABC quickly spun them into a 'warning from Saddam' about Bin Laden, ignoring any other possibilities. Yeah, you see the Butcher was only trying to help us in the WoT before Bush screwed up. For more evidence, although somewhat flimsier, check this AP story and notice the accompanying picture. Compare it to this story from the Weekly Standard.
But there may be an end run available on the MSM. The blogosphere should be able to help immensely in the translation...Iraq the Model and the other Iraqi bloggers come to mind, not to mention the thousands of Iraqi-Americans here. We'll probably be able to get some reliable information rather quickly if anything of significance is released.
But aside from the conservatives there is yet another element, a fringe element, eagerly awaiting the docs. It's the UFO crowd. Some believe Mesopotamia was some kind of UFO magnet from way back, and that Saddam had been recently 'visited' and was in possession of alien technology that he was fixin to exploit--on us. And that represents the REAL reason we had to attack, you see. The Trilateral Commission knows all about this as do the Bilderbergers, but they've only told the Freemasons (and me, of course). Otherwise it's a secret.
