Just to prove it, one of the student's fathers was quoted as saying his son was probably just looking for work with all the job opportunities here. Somebody should tell him to check with Reid or Pelosi before making such a ridiculous comment, the economy being as bad as it is. But he did get this part of the democrat playbook correct:
After hearing reports about a terror plot foiled in London, el-Dessouki became worried that American authorities might think his son was involved. "Will he be fine? Will they torture him?" he said. That's better. He must get Juan Cole over there.
With the terrorism concern alleviated (according to the media) I guess we can assume they were another part of the massive crush of fradulent border crossers seeking illegal work in America. That should raise the ugly issues of student visa programs and illegal immigration, but outside the blogosphere it probably won't.
The elections are coming and both parties want the immigration issue buried. It's akin to Michael Keaton's character in
Not saying the terrorist plot was an intentional deflection because it wasn't. But the politicos will use it as such if we allow them. Despite all our foreign policy issues we still have domestic problems to address.
PRODUCE ULTIMATUM 8/13/06
Unless he was misquoted (and as we've seen from the media lately, that's hardly a small chance) then this story should make us mad. This fellow has the nerve to issue a threat, which I took as follows--if people don't stop scaring away his produce-picking illegals with all this talk about laws and so forth, why he's gonna make us all pay. Oughta be ashamed.
