A pause for reflection

Email is great, it keeps family members in touch. I even got an email recently from an old high school buddy I'd not talked to since, well, high school. But email can be irritating, too. How many times have you gotten something that you knew was bogus, yet people were spreading it around anyway? Like quotes from Andy Rooney or George Carlin, etc, etc, saying things they would probably never say. Snopes can be handy there, but it's hardly worth pointing out to the sender.

But sometimes I get email that I know might be misattributed, or made up, but the sentiment is correct anyway.

Here are a few recent favorites:

With hurricanes, tornado's, flooding, severe thunderstorms and earth quakes tearing up the country from one end to another the quote of the month is from Jay Leno!!

"Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Does it matter if Leno really said this or not? Nope. Here's another (not from Leno):

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says

Or believe in aliens and ghosts for that matter. Speaking of a ghost (or alien, depending on your politics) here's a few from Ronald Reagan:

Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose."

Sometimes you don't need a speechwriter. The Gipper continues:

"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."

More Gipperwisdom:

"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first."

And finally, these are supposedly from a Tennessee school district..notes from parents excusing their children from school.

1. My son is under a doctor's care and should not take PE today. Please execute him.

2. Please exkuce lisa for being absent she was sick and i had her shot.

3. Dear school: please ecsc's john being absent on jan. 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and also 33.

Hey, we ain't dumb down here. Some of us has been to school. I seen em.
