Polanski

My take is simple--bring him back, just like any other captured fugitive. And I'm a big fan of vintage Hollywood.

Not surprisingly this has divided the left coasters and flyovers. To some, Polanski was probably one weirdo among many, feeding the beast. For Hollywood, just another day at the movies. After all the 13 year old seventh grader was, according to him, radiating sexual tension. Some supporters may see a kind of Fatty Arbuckle story here while others see a lech.

But the bottom line is he raped someone, whether 13 or 31. It was not consensual, and even if she had agreed it still wasn't due to her minor status. He skipped town before sentencing and didn't return, and rule of law systems function best when practicing (blindly) the rule of law. Why is that so hard to understand?

And what door does NOT extraditing him open? Terrorists, murderers, rapists, child abusers can just flee a country and live happily roaming free in Europe? He needs to be brought back and accept responsibility for his actions. The fact that anyone thinks otherwise is disgusting.

this is ridiculous, he raped a 13 year old girl and pleaded guilty, then ran to another country. He isnt above the law in any way, shape or form. He should be the one getting raped in prison, that would be justice.

I agree, bring him back. Dateline To Catch A Predator arrests men his age for "trying and thinking" about having sex with 13 year old girls. This guy did it AND plead guilty. Mr. Polanski is not special - he did the crime, he should do the time as any other regardless of how much he paid the victim or how much time has passed.

Disgusting - she was radiating sexual tension?? That's what pedophiles say about 4 year olds.

Read the court documents, he's a horrible human being who victimized this child.

If he was Anyone but a rich and famous person, everyone would be calling for him to go straight to jail without passing go.

For those defending him, how would you feel if that was your 13 yr old little girl? Because a 13 yr old IS a little girl. If she was my daughter, I would have caught the first flight to France and found him myself.

Now, AC, let's think about this a second. Whoopi Goldberg says that it wasn't rape rape. And we all know that she is an authority on just about everything. Right?

/sarc

(Maybe Whoopi should consult her friend Oprah and see what SHE thinks about the situation.)

Guess Whoopie's given us an insight into the definition of LA crimes (not you, LA)...rape is just playing around and murder is what OJ and Baretta do when riled up over a cheating woman. To serve real time they need rape rape, and murder murder.

Yet Sarah Palin is evil..

Really??? Are you kidding me? The guy pled guilty and then took off because he didn't want to actually take responsibility and receive his sentence for breaking the law. Poor Polansky. So mistreated. Raping and drugging a child is not a big deal...It's been such a long time and look at what great movies he's made. Really???? Are you kidding me? Are these people for real? Hollywood is wacked.

This whole thing makes me sick. It doesn’t matter what the age of the person is. Rape is rape. Her age only makes it worse. What Pisses me off the most is the fact that this is even an issue. He ADMITTED to what he did. He was found GUILTY! He CHOSE TO RUN and flee the country. He was/IS a coward! I can't even believe anyone would support him. He made bad choices and his past finally caught up with him. Had he did his time 30 years ago then he would be out now. Polanski is a criminal. He drugged and raped a child… period! He is a criminal and a coward. Making movies, money and being rich and famous should not erase what a person did. I am tired of celebrities getting off with a slap on the wrist because people like them, or because they are so “talented”, or because they are so kind… after all people though Ted Bundy was kind too. Doesn’t anyone care about the quality of a person’s character anymore?

The whole this is disgusting… There is no question that he did the crime. And yes it was rape. The concept of “consensual” is despicable on the part of anyone who would utter such vile nonsense. One of the most hideous crimes against children and these &*%^$@S want to excuse it? He plied her with alcohol, Quaalude, and then raped her (sodomized her!!). The fact that some of the self-proclaimed “enlightened” people in the entertainment industry want to white-wash, excuse, minimize, rationalize, justify… is beyond the pale. Their hypocrisy shines through. Ooooo Polanski! I know they (Hollywood types) wouldn’t be coming out in the defense of the pedophile down the street.—the one ogling your 13-year-old daughter or sister. Really, I can’t stomach this.
