The Super Fraud

So causal they are about it.

This morning it was revealed that Jennifer Hudson's performance of the National Anthem, one that "..brought tears to my eyes," according to Jamie Foxx afterwards, was lip-synched, along with Faith Hill's version of America the Beautiful.

The purveyor of that blasphemy was none other than Super Bowl pre-game producer Rickey Minor of American Idol fame, who said (apparently with a straight face):
"That's the right way to do it," Minor said. "There's too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance."
Jiminy Christmas. Are performances now classified by the artist's ability to fake them? Will they be adding a 'best lip synch award' at the Grammys? And was the fact that Hudson was "from the church" according to Minor some kind of special qualification for pulling off a more impressive fake? An artist used to be judged by an ability to perform--the actual song--live.

That begs the question as to the reality of the half time performances. They must be live considering the horrible mess made by the Rolling Stones a few years ago. And there was of course nipple-gate, so some dignity remains. We can only hope that amazing performance by the players on the field was not scripted. And it was amazing. Nothing like a Kurt Warner Super Bowl. Wait, he's "from the church", too!

Wondering deeper, how many so-called live performances are actually faked? Was Ashley Simpson a sort of Nixon character in entertainment--guilty like all the rest but unlucky enough to get caught? Obama needs to look into this immediately, right after he fixes the college bowl mess.

I had not heard this. I thought Faith Hill did a great job, but didn't know it was Memorex. What a shame.

Did you happen to hear the HUGE applause that Gen. David Patraeus received from the crowd? More applause and cheers for him than for anyone else introduced prior to the game.

I'm still not sure whether he meant voice or just music track but it sure seemed like he meant both, otherwise why comment on the possible screw-up potential.

And yes, caught the Petraeus ovation. It was great.

Hi !

Will smoke and mirrors such as this be the hallmark of the Nerobama year(s)?

LOL, L'Amerloque. Obama fiddles while Kentucky freezes. And didn't they use a dubbed music track or two at the greatest inauguration ever?
