Local Nativity Scene back in business

We had some national attention right here in left Tennessee as the O'Reilly Factor held an interview with local members of Broadmoor Baptist Church about a tiny nativity scene they had erected in a display case of the Bartlett, TN public library. Fishkite has much more detail. Here's my two pennies.

Certainly the reason O'Reilly got involved was the involvement of the ACLU, whom he appears to be at war with, and vice versa. They wanted the display out. You can read about it here, but you might have to register.

Just check out this silliness:
"It's not appropriate for a stand-alone Nativity to be on public property such as a library," she said. "It shows a total disrespect for the minority community and disregard for valued constitutional principles that have long been part of our democracy

Disrespect for "minorities"? That's a good one.

The entire concept of barring nativity scenes at places such as libraries, public recreation facilities, etc, is nonsense. I can understand the concept as it pertains to government buildings engaged in the practice of making law or settling legal matters, halls of Congress, etc.

But some of our PC-driven neighbors have completely lost their senses on this issue. For example, what harm would come if Muslims, Jews or other recognized religious groups were allowed to also set up small displays recognizing their holidays at libraries or community centers? I'll take none for 100, Alex.

Religious freedom is a wonderful thing and should be celebrated, like tolerance and diversity. As long as the state doesn't show sponsorship for any of these specific religious groups there should be absolutely no problem.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, to all!
