Bremer: Spanish troops in Iraq wouldn't fight

Calling them the "coalition of the absolutely unwilling" in his new book "My Year in Iraq", former CPA leader L. Paul Bremer makes it sound like the loss of Spanish troops in Iraq was no great loss. Describing a tense situation in the Shiite area involving al-Sadr, Bremer lays it out:
"The Spanish commander in Nayab refused to cooperate. He said that going into the city on this sort of mission violated his rules of engagement,"
Apparently his rules of engagement were "do not engage". Ok, no engago, por favor (I'm starting to learn Spanish by just participating in daily commerce here in America).
Former Spanish foreign minister Ana Palacio called Bremer from Madrid in order to tell him "that she knew nothing" about the problems in Nayab and that she had spoken with prime minister Aznar, who did not believe the report on the behavior of the Spanish troops. But Bremer said that his sources told him that the Spaniards "were still sitting there without moving their butts."
Europe is doomed.
