A sad disregard

The Risen book is spilling out all over the media. Not only did he blab about the NSA snooping, other excerpts talk of a failed CIA mission to plant phoney nuclear blueprints into the hands of the Iranians. The CIA's public affairs officer, a Ms. Jennifer Millerwise Dyke (sounds like a fake name) shot back at Risen, attempting to undermine the book and writer based on the anonymous sources used.

Ms. Dyke also said the book showed "an unfathomable and sad disregard for US national security". I would agree. Unearthing this type of thing does nothing to promote the greater good. Many won't understand this game is played by all sides, not just the CIA.

But that's not the point. This book is the best evidence yet of an outright war between current and former elements of the federal bureaucracy and George W. Bush, and the intention is to oust Bush either through impeachment or the ballot box this November, probably both. I can imagine the perpetrators considering any terrorist attacks that might result as "collateral damage", necessary for the greater good. Besides, any future attacks will be blamed on Bush.

We might find out soon just how serious Risen's anecdotes are, since the adminstration seems compelled to pursue the leak investigation. Surely Risen and his sources considered this possibility up front. Perhaps he's got a few more leaks timed in response to the level of FBI pressure. A telltale could be a stall in the investigation or a deal made regarding his testimony in the Wen Ho Lee case.
